ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Manganga’s farmers do not use any fertilizer, or non-organic pesticides.

They feel that their heirloom cocoa trees do not need it. And these farmers have no desire to pollute or destroy their soil and water with chemicals. While the cost to become ‘certified’ organic is too high, we intend to do so in the future. And of course, there is no certification for their traditional farming practices, which are pretty natural and organic.

FAIR TRADE

We believe that to be sustainable, the cocoa business has to be fair to farmers and workers, as well as environmentally responsible.

Our philosophy is to pay a premium for the extra time and labor to create the high-quality of cocoa we buy.

In addition, we support the farmers in order to:

  • Cover their working capital and financial needs
  • Fulfill their technology and equipment investments
  • Technical support and training

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

At the request of the community members, we have given our direct support to their local elementary school. One of the main concerns of the farming community is their children’s education. Without available local quality education, children leave villages for big cities. As a consequence, there are fewer and fewer young farmers who stay in the countryside.
