Fine & Specialty Cocoa
FROM
CAMEROON
Abbia Cocoa was started with seed money from Jigoro Investments, NFP, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to sustainable, ethical investments in Cameroon and other under-developed sub-Saharan countries.
In addition to supporting the construction of fermentation boxes, drying racks, and storage houses, much of Jigoro’s focus for the past year has been on logistics: to build a parallel infrastructure to allow quality beans to be produced and shipped from the heart of industrialized cocoa production.
ABOUT US
Abbia Fine & Specialty Cocoa has devoted the past several years to establishing a robust supply chain, procuring high-quality single-origin cocoa beans directly from fair-trade, socially responsible family farms in Nyong et Kelle and Sang Maritime Counties, Cameroon
All our process take care about traceability and environmental issues. In recent times, our expansion has led us to source high-quality conventional cacao from a sizable community of farmers, enabling us to offer higher volumes of this exceptional product.
Due to their unique flavor, robustness and low maintenance these are sustainable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible sources of cacao.
Roots and Renewal: Our cocoa's history
Victor: The Pillar Behind Our Success in Cocoa Post-harvest
Victor, our esteemed head of post-harvest cacao, is an alumnus of Yaounde University, where he earned his master's degree in energy, environmental, and earth sciences. His passion for agriculture was inspired by his uncle, a pioneering agricultural engineer who was instrumental in numerous initiatives in Cameroon from the 1960s to the 2000s. During those years, Cameroon proudly stood among Africa's top producers of various agricultural products, notably cocoa.
Embracing challenges has always been Victor's forte. He is driven by a passion to demonstrate that Cameroon continues to produce exquisite cocoa with unparalleled flavours. Over the years, Victor has honed his post-harvest skills, with notable guidance from ZOTO.be's expertise in cocoa.
Our Venture
Our operations are rooted in the heart of the Sanaga Maritime County, amidst its vibrant farmer community. All the farmer community warmly embraced Jigoro Investments and its Abbia Cocoa project, underscoring our commitment to cultivating top-tier cocoa.
All of our farmer collaborators are conveniently located within a 10 km radius of our centralized fermentation and drying facility. Our farmer community partners have a rich history of cocoa cultivation. Their journey began in the period between 1884 and 1915, when the Germans first introduced large-scale cocoa cultivation to Cameroon. However, it's worth noting that the very first cacao plants in Cameroon, originating from Brazil, were introduced by the Portuguese around 1822.
ABBIA FLAVORS
We developed two fermentation profiles to highlight and enhance the flavors that are found in Manganga beans
ABBIA ELÒN
The cocoa flavor is delightfully expressed with some acidity notes that blend nicely with the fruity and aromatic hints
ABBIA KULU
ABBIA KULU has a very interesting complexity. The cocoa aroma is well balanced with some berry notes
